Paranormal story is frequently associated with ghosts and this kind of tale exists in all cultures around the world. Since pre-literate times, people have been fascinated with ghosts because of curiosity on life after death. Paranormal occurrences are varied, so this means ghost also are varied with different goals. Some are just happy doing paranormal events to scare people and some are so friendly and maybe just walk here on earth to watch or help their love ones. Paranormal tales with ghost come in all eras and so many famous writers wrote about it including Shakespeare.
Halloween is originated from pagan rituals and is a favorite thing of All Souls Night, a celebration with religious influences.
Very few people today know or care about the origin of Halloween and only care about trick-or-treating and reading, listening, or watching ghost tales.
Stories about paranormal is just part of the traditional story telling since pre-literate periods, and the most famous paranormal tale is about the ghost. Humans are naturally afraid of things that they do not know and fear of death is not surprising as there is no solid evidence of what happens after death. This could be the reason humans are so fascinated about ghosts and life after death stories.
Several cultures have their own superstitions about ghosts or dead returning in the dimension of the living. These cultures have been justifying their beliefs through drawings and writings from the very start of civilization. The Egyptian Book of the Dead mentioned about dead people who showed themselves to the living not just the way they looked when they were still alive but also dressed the same. This means that not only dead people apparently have the ability to show themselves but so do metal, leather, and textiles.
Literature in all eras exist largely with ghost stories. Shakespeare frequently used ghosts in his plays and Charles Dickens also wrote the famous all-ghost story of all time. Other notable authors famous with ghost tale are Jane Austen, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Guy de Maupassant, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Willa Cather, Edith Wharton, Edgar Allan Poe, Oscar Wilde and so much more.
Ghost stories may be told in different tones and styles, some are scary and some are humorous. After all, ghosts many have different goals in which some may want vengeance and others want to help their love one. Ghosts may be murdered or committed suicide and it is believed that their spirits cannot proceed to their destination because it is not their time yet, so they walked the earth instead of resting in peace. Some ghosts are playful and some are just enjoying their own cruelty.
Ghost come in all varieties, just like people, and so do the stories about them.
