Ghosts: Origin, History, and Cultures

Paranormal story is frequently associated with ghosts and this kind of tale exists in all cultures around the world. Since pre-literate times, people have been fascinated with ghosts because of curiosity on life after death. Paranormal occurrences are varied, so this means ghost also are varied with different goals. Some are just happy doing paranormal events to scare people and some are so friendly and maybe just walk here on earth to watch or help their love ones. Paranormal tales with ghost come in all eras and so many famous writers wrote about it including Shakespeare.

Halloween is originated from pagan rituals and is a favorite thing of All Souls Night, a celebration with religious influences.

Very few people today know or care about the origin of Halloween and only care about trick-or-treating and reading, listening, or watching ghost tales.

Stories about paranormal is just part of the traditional story telling since pre-literate periods, and the most famous paranormal tale is about the ghost. Humans are naturally afraid of things that they do not know and fear of death is not surprising as there is no solid evidence of what happens after death. This could be the reason humans are so fascinated about ghosts and life after death stories.

Several cultures have their own superstitions about ghosts or dead returning in the dimension of the living. These cultures have been justifying their beliefs through drawings and writings from the very start of civilization. The Egyptian Book of the Dead mentioned about dead people who showed themselves to the living not just the way they looked when they were still alive but also dressed the same. This means that not only dead people apparently have the ability to show themselves but so do metal, leather, and textiles.

Literature in all eras exist largely with ghost stories. Shakespeare frequently used ghosts in his plays and Charles Dickens also wrote the famous all-ghost story of all time. Other notable authors famous with ghost tale are Jane Austen, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Guy de Maupassant, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Willa Cather, Edith Wharton, Edgar Allan Poe, Oscar Wilde and so much more.

Ghost stories may be told in different tones and styles, some are scary and some are humorous. After all, ghosts many have different goals in which some may want vengeance and others want to help their love one. Ghosts may be murdered or committed suicide and it is believed that their spirits cannot proceed to their destination because it is not their time yet, so they walked the earth instead of resting in peace. Some ghosts are playful and some are just enjoying their own cruelty.

Ghost come in all varieties, just like people, and so do the stories about them.

President Eisenhower and the Extra-terrestrials

In 1954, the President of US, Dwight D. Eisenhower, has been rumoured to have been meeting with extra-terrestrial beings. But the question is, is this rumour true or simply a feverish imagination made by the people?

The most common told story was that President Eisenhower made an unexpected vacation trip to Palm Springs. During this vacation, they say he was spirited away and sent to Edwards Air Force base were the said secret meeting with the aliens took place. Then the president was back to Palm Springs before dawn and then ordered that any information about UFOs should be kept discrete. .

It is acknowledged that the President really did go to a vacation in Palm Springs between the dates February 17 to 24 in the year 1954. It begs the question whether the purpose of this vacation is for pleasure only or not, because it’s not only the president had this vacation all of a sudden but also he had just came back from a quail shooting vacation in Georgia only less than a week before.

On the evening of the 20th of February, it is recorded that the president has mysteriously disappeared from the gathering. With him being gone created a controversy with the people and due to lack of valid explanations rumours had been made that the president was ill or even died.

The media were ready to spread the story until the Press secretary James Haggarty announced that the president had his tooth cap extricated while eating a fried chicken and had been brought to a local dentist to be treated. On the following evening, the President invited the dentist into a steak fry dinner as a “thank you” reward.

But in 1979, the dentist’s widow was interviewed about the treatment yet she doesn’t remember the incident of his husband treating the president, only the steak fry dinner.

Another anomaly was the sending of “thank you” notes to everyone on the trip except to the dentist who was said to have treated the president. But the most obvious justification was the President’s medical record because no evidence of dental work was found during the year of 1954.

The controversy was made stronger when the Former Government and Pentagon Consultant, Timothy Good testified that the president with the selected FBI officials met the “extra-terrestrials” thrice at Edwards and Holloman air bases. Good also stated that the governments all over the world have known and been communicating with the aliens for “many decades”.

So, were the evidences above enough for you to believe in the existence of “extra-terrestrials”? Yet, in the end it is we who decide for ourselves.

Trying To Contact With a Ghost

Many people think that they haven’t seen a ghost with their entire life but what they don’t know is that they may have seen them and they try to connect with them but they are just trying to ignore what they saw and they don’t understand the communication.

I can say that I am 90% sure that I am aware of these ghost feelings. My husband just thought of it as silly because he doesn’t really believe with ghost not until the day my mother-in-law died.

When someone you loved dies
My husband really don’t believe with ghost and think that it is silly but one day when his mother died he really hope that he would see her mother again in some form just to see her once again but until now he hasn’t. Just because his mother never shown herself to him it doesn’t mean that she hasn’t visiting.

The subtle way ghosts attract our attention
My first encounter of my mother-in-law visiting us is when during her funeral. I was so sad that I bow my head then I just heard someone laughing hard. Then when I look at the area where the source of voice is, I her mother sitting in her coffin and is laughing at us. Then I tried not to laugh with her then I bow down my head. My husband saw what I did and ask me what I saw then I just said to him that “your mum is having a lot more fun than we are”.

After my mother-in-laws death my husband usually noticed something such as lights turn off for no reason, he heard strange sounds in the hallway, knocking the door and her smell. There are also signs of communication when unusual problem with electrical gadgets occur it is like someone wants your attention. One night when I am talking with my husband about my father’s new friend, the lamp in my side just got off, then when I went down to look for a bulb the television was open then cut off again. Then I finally called out “it is not my fault Mum, he wasn’t going to stay on his own forever.” Then I heard a sigh then everything has back to normal again.
